What lovely weather we had this year - started a little chilly Saturday morning, but then quickly warmed up hitting 25 deg C on Sunday. An enjoyable time was had by all who attended. From the picture, you can clearly see that some people were enjoying themselves too much!

A good turn out despite the poor weather conditions - mainly cold & windy. The day seamed to be plagued by mishaps & breakdowns, with Mother Nature doing her up most to throw everything at us, or should that be drop everything on us! Daniel Martin & Robin Lee shared the honours in the Scale Steering Competition while Neil Martin won the Club 500 Race. What a lovely day to be by the water. Unlike previous BBQ days, when there has been little or no sailing, this year, lots of boats took to the water. There was a big turn out from both members & members friends & family groups. This offered a chance for particularly some youngsters to see what we do for the first time & have a go. Big thanks to all those who helped make the day go smoothly, especially to Peter Revill for the use of his big BBQ once again. An interesting day of events, starting with the prank attack on my boat - or should I say 'A total Wind Up!' Yes that is a plastic clockwork wind-up fixed to the roof of my boat. I will have my revenge Mr Petts, when you least expect it! The course set by Allan Robertson was a 'challenge' to follow, leaving just the 'plastic clockwork yielding prankster' that is David Petts to win on the day. (You'll notice that I'm not in anyway bitter about this)! What do you get if you decide to race 7 Club 500's at once around our tight racing course? Total chaos I here you cry, not quite, I think only two boats failed to make it back this time. I thought there would be a lot more crashes than there were - we must be getting better at the maddness that is Club 500 Racing! On Sunday 12th May Brentwood Club visited our friends at the Moorhen Club in Harlow for some good old fashioned friendly rivalry! As always, we were well looked after & the rain just about held off. They have of course set the tone for their visit to us in August, by setting an extremely hard steering course to follow with a huge number of reversing manoeuvres. We will be forced to respond to this in kind! David Petts managed to grab a Third Place Trophy from the Scale Steering & Neil Martin won the Club 500 fun race at the end of the day. On behalf of the Brentwood Club, may I extend our thanks to the Moorhen Club for hosting yet another lovely day of sailing. A perfect day for model boaters with sunny weather & this time no wind! Neil served Hot Dogs again, whilst Andy was there, as always, with his tea & coffee, plus the all important spare Club 500 propellers! Double honours for Robin this time round by coming equal first with Heather & Neil in the Scale Steering & then going on to win the Club 500 race, so well done to him. The New Course is out, The sun is back & so at last are we! The 2013 Competition season kicked off with a really good turn out that saw a challenging day on the water. What should have been an easy course to steer turned into a nightmare for some due to the strong winds! Jessie Martin won the day with her "Swordsman" boat, proving that small, light weight boats can function well in strong winds. Our thanks to Robin for designing a simple course to follow to ease our way into the new season. New for this year, will be the morning fry-up by Neil Martin, providing much needed sustenance during our half time tea breaks. Thanks to the sterling efforts of John Elliot, the meeting at the school for the scale section has been rescheduled for FEBRUARY 8th, this is one week before the club's AGM. John managed to get the school to shift the date as we were unable to use the agreed date due to the weather conditions.
One round or two? - Just the one this time was the concensus. Conditions on the lake were at the most challenging that we have seen yet this year, causing a number of early retirements. The new 'Marion' (seen pictured!) did an excellent job running the shed & totalling up the scores of all 'three' people who managed to complete one round! On a brighter note, the weather was lovely. |
