I attach some pics showing how I go about making the ratlines.
Always soak the threads and leave overnight weighted to ensure stretching. If this is not done the the ratlines will become "floppy". Normally after doing that the cords are stiffish and easier to work with.
A connoisseur making a static model will normally knot the "ladder" cross pieces but I've always sewn them ie I use a threaded needle with the thinner thread and push it through the main thicker thread. Just before pulling the thread the last 5 mm I apply a touch of the Hi Tac glue.
On models that are 10-12 years old, the cross threads are still secure.
You will also note that this process is undertaken off the model using a template.
On this model both Port and Starboard ratlines are now attached but with those for the mizzen mast still to be made,.
