Pic 1 & 2 : The Petts foundry. The ladal is a one piece unit from TK max about £3.
The gas cylinder Aldi again about £3. + a blow lamp valve of course.
Casting lead is very easy, but with molten metal can be very dangerous if care is not taken. Be careful.
Pic 3 : Keel Moulds : plugs cut from the wooden keel set in a damp mix of sand and cement.
Pic 4 : Keel with lead castings .
Pic 5 : Keel semi finished with P38.
Pic 6 : Keel attached to underside of hull with 4 metal pins.
I choose this type of shaped keel as opposed to a yacht style skeg for two reasons :
(1) It keeps the model on a straight course - much like the fin on an aircraft.
(2) It avoids the keel fouling on those "perishing" under water ropes.
