It is with great sadness & regret that I now have to report on the loss of one of the Club's longest running members & in many ways a giant in the model boating world, Dave Brumstead. I first met Dave in 1988, when through another member who was a neighbour of his, told him about the then new Brentwood Model Yacht & Power Boat Club. He quickly became a regular face at the lake, so much so that he became Scale Secretary & Chairman of the Club at various times. He was known widely elsewhere in the model boat world due to all of the writing he had done for the Model Boats Magazine publication, doing kit reviews or specialist in-depth reports on different aspects of the shared interests we all had in the hobby. We used to tease him about how many copies of the magazine he had to sign at the shows we attended together. We had to get in the jokes on him whenever & wherever we could, as he would constantly do the same to us! This put him at the very heart of what made our club what it is today, with such a great group of friends that are always ready for a laugh & joke & to never take things too seriously. It was a difficult time for him during the last few years as he had been suffering from ill health increasingly & this had lead to him have give up the hobby that he so richly loved, letting go of his models & having to step away from being an active member of the club. For his years of service, both he & his wife Marion were made honorary members of the club. He finally succumbed to his ill health on 30th January 2025 surrounded by his close family. Our thoughts & prayers are with them at this difficult time. |

![]() It is with regret, that we have to announce the recent passing of Andy King. He has been one of the most dependable members of the club, running the Tea Hut at all of our events & other activity days at the lake. For the last few years he also took on the Committee role as the club's Treasurer. He was always available to assist in running our show events & often brought the equipment from our lake that we would need at the shows to help them run smoothly. He has more or less run the Wednesday morning work days at the lake & been instrumental in organising what needs to be done & getting stuck in with the work whenever it has been needed. Simply put he is irreplaceable & the club has lost a great man, which we will all miss dearly. Our thoughts go out to his family at this difficult time. ![]() Whilst the UK slowly moves out of Lock-down, our Club is gently starting to get going again. Formal events will start at this years Wings & Wheels Model Show at North Weald Airfield (Corona Virus permitting) & then we plan to continue with some socially distanced events throughout the summer months. Unfortunately, the model boat world was rocked by the loss of the former Model Boats Magazine editor Paul Freshney, who was also a former Brentwood Club member & good friend those who knew him from his many years with us. His loss has now been followed by the recent sudden passing of Allan Robertson (pictured), due to cancer. All of our sympathies go out to both Allan's & Paul's families in these horrible times. Who knows what this 2021 season will bring us all, but we need to try & make the best of it to honor those who are no longer with us, as I know that's what they would have wanted Due to Corona Virus, all previously planned events have had to be cancelled, for the remainder of the year. As things have eased up a little, we are now meeting at the lake for a free sail session every 1st & 3rd Sunday of each month, adhering to social distancing rules & the rule of 6. There is plenty of space to spread ourselves around the lake area, so as not to breach any of the rules. This will of course continue subject to any new lock-down rules, that maybe implemented in the future.
All planned club events for 2020 have been suspended until further notice due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
2019 the club continued to host a series of competitions for members at our lake & attended many public events thoughout the year. As always, these have been accompanyed by various social events both at the lake & elsewhere for club members friends & family to enjoy as well.
In June the club attended the annual Wings & Wheels Model Show at North Weald, Essex. Due to a lack of trade exhibitors within the enclosure, we had pleny of space to spread yourselves acoss the room. Below are some pictures from the event.
From July to December the club continued as with previous years to enjoy a combination of home lake events, club social events & attended local model shows to show off our models to the general public. below are some picture highlights of the second half of the 2018 season. The two pictures above are from the Museum Of Power Model Show in October. The pictures below are from the Wings & Wheels Model Show at North Weald. Robin Lee went on to win the Peter Revill Trophy & Heather Lee won the Jack Connelly Cup. Robin also shared top place with Geoff Eplett for the Club 500 racing for 2018.
The Lee family have been having some work done at their house recently. They say it's a new kitchen, but we all know the real reason was the sudden collapse of their Trophy Cabinet! Well done to all & bring on the 2019 season. We were blessed with one of the hottest days of the year so far whilst holding our annual BBQ Day on Bank Holiday Monday. A large number of members & their friends & family attended this year & contributed to making it one of the best days at the lake ever.
Members had plenty of food from the BBQ including Chicken, Ribs Sausages & Burgers & in the gazebo a choice of fresh bread, salads, dips, savouries & cakes. Members also made the most of the fine weather & sailed their models too (that all stopped when the food was ready though!)
